This is the church, this is the steeple, open the doors and see all the people.
We are the people.  We are the foundation of the church.  During this time of physical distancing, the people are what will hold up the church.

Wayne Presbyterian is an incredible mission “outreach” church.  During the next weeks and possibly months it’s time to be an “in-reach” church.  It’s time to take care of our own. Let’s put on our own oxygen masks, and help others find theirs.

Many members are isolated and lonely; members (of all ages) live alone. In a recent New Yorker article, the author Robin Wright says “Loneliness is not just a feeling. It’s a biological warning signal to seek out other humans…”

We are here to help members connect to help alleviate some of this loneliness.  Although recently technology has been villainized as a social combatant, in an age of physical distancing it is a blessing.  Through online platforms such as Zoom we can connect groups of church members for coffee chats, committee meetings, Bible studies, and prayer time.  Zoom offers us the ability to see each other (via a computer, device or smart phone) via video calling and also provides a phone call-in option so those that have technology difficulties can also participate.

We are working on training facilitators to help create these virtual connections.  We will soon communicate with you how you can become part of a virtual group.  Please check your weekly email and the website for updates on how this will happen.  In the meantime, if you know someone who needs an outreach call please contact Lynne or Richard or let us know online – or make that call yourself and recruit others.  We are the people, we are the church.

Alice Hood, Nancy Dever
