The Road to Wisdom: Gracious Conversation in a Contentious Age

THE ROAD TO WISDOM:

Gracious Conversation in a Contentious Age

It’s hard to miss how fractured our society has become. In this time of rising division, how can we find our way back to truth and grace?

On March 14 at Wayne Presbyterian Church, Dr. Francis Collins will share his vision of a path beyond polarization and toward wisdom.

Drawing on his faith and a career at the forefront of science, Collins will make the case that overcoming today’s divisions means reconnecting with long-trusted sources of clear thinking.

If you’re feeling exhausted by division, Collins’ talk offers a hopeful path forward.

The talk is free and open to the public.

Meet Dr. Francis Collins

Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., is a physician-scientist and one of the best-known scientists of the current era.

Dr. Collins served as Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) under three presidents. In that role, he guided the nation’s biomedical research, including a historic series of research partnerships addressing diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to that, he served as Director of the Human Genome Project, an international collaboration that first mapped the entire human genome.

His own research has also led to the discovery of the cause of cystic fibrosis and several other genetic disorders.

His contributions to science have been recognized by election to the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences, and the awarding of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal of Science.

Collins became a Christian at age 27. In 2006, he wrote the best-selling book The Language of God, which makes the case that science actually enhances faith.

The tremendous response to the book prompted Collins to found BioLogos, an organization that explores and delights in the harmony between faith and science. Collins is now a Senior Fellow at BioLogos.

Collins’ most recent book is The Road to Wisdom: On Truth, Science, Faith, and Trust. Today, Collins lives with his wife, Diane Baker, in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

From “national treasure” Francis Collins (Philip Yancey), the New York Times bestselling author of The Language of God and former director of the National Institutes of Health, comes a deeply thoughtful guidebook to get us beyond societal divisions and back to the sources of wisdom—”the sort that can save us before it is too late” (Jane Goodall).

Dr. Collins on the Late show with Stephe Colbert discussed the political polarization in our country and what he calls “The Exhausted Middle:”

Dr. Collins on PBS’  Amanpour & Company discuses the culture wars and hyper-partisanship are overwhelming voters and sowing distrust. Dr. Francis Collins, former Director of the National Institutes of Health, believes an antidote may be found in both faith and science. He joins the show to explain.
