David Kim has distinguished himself as one of today’s premier violinists, serving as Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 1999 Philadelphia Orchestra. Born in Carbondale, Illinois in 1963, he began studying violin at just three and studied with the legendary Dorothy DeLay at age eight Philadelphia Orchestra. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School Philadelphia Orchestra.
Beginning his career as a child prodigy—he even appeared on programs like Disney’s The Mickey Mouse Club—David Kim has since performed around the globe, appearing as both concertmaster and soloist with orchestras in the U.S. and abroad, including memorable appearances in Asia, Europe, and South America Philadelphia Orchestra. He’s also known for his role as concertmaster of the Emmy-winning All-Star Orchestra on PBS and online at Khan Academy Philadelphia Orchestra. In 2022, he published The Audition Method for Violin, a highly regarded guide for orchestral audition.
