Black History Month Speaker Series: Cheryl Brown Henderson, Keynote speaker
Sunday, February 05, 2023
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
WPC will celebrate Black History Month in February with programming centered on Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark 1954 case in which the U.S. Supreme Court held that segregation of public schools based on race was unconstitutional. Our series begins with Cheryl Brown Henderson who is the daughter of the Rev. Oliver Brown, the key litigant in the Brown vs Board of Education case. Please join us to hear three influential speakers lead talks and discussions regarding the history and current status of civil rights nationally and locally.
What led up to the Brown decision and why was it necessary? What did the Court’s decision really mean for public schools and other institutions? How has the Brown decision stood the test of time, and in practice what are its ramifications today?
Please join us as we seek to understand the history and current landscape of civil rights and racial equality.
