Good Morning Feb 16 2024

February 16, 2024

Good morning!

The sun is shining, but snow is on its way!  Thank you to everyone who attended Dr. Emerson Powery’s class last Sunday on Horse and slavery.  It was so informative and engaging!  I recorded the class and am in the process of uploading it so it can be shared.  Please email me if you want a link to watch the recording.

Dr Powery did refer to his book several times during the class.  Here is a link to his book,  The Genesis of Liberation: Biblical Interpretation in the Antebellum Narratives of the Enslaved.

This Sunday, we welcome Tony Holland, a friend of many at WPC!  He wears many hats in his personal and professional life and we are lucky to have him facilitate the discussions with us around Horse and themes that have tugged at us.  I am planning on recording this class as well.

This is our closing Sunday morning class for Horse, by Geraldine Brooks - One Book, One Church series.  Thank you to all of you who have participated in one way or another!  Hopefully, you have found it to be a meaningful and worthwhile use of your time and attention.  The power of stories to move us to reflection, conviction, and action is as old as time.  That is why our sacred text, The Bible, is full of stories!

March 3 - We have sold all 30 tickets that we purchased for the play!  If you are still interested in joining us, there are tickets available at People’s Light Theatre, but for the regular price.

If you made it to the end of this email, I wanted to let you all know that Rick Davis and I facilitate discussions every Sunday in the Library at 9:30 am for a class called Fellowship of the Bean (bean that is!). These classes are stand-alone, so you are never behind.   Usually, we read an article or watch a short video as a jumping-off point for our discussions.  Feel free to come every week or just occasionally.

Gratefully,

 Janice Mack
